Yes, yes. Another left lane rant.
I just want one person to give me any sort of a LOGICAL explanation as to why they are so obsessed with the left lane.
This morning, driving into work, three lane highway, I am in the right lane, no one around me for some distance. I come along to an on-ramp which dumps out into a 4th lane (the on ramp becomes another lane for a good 8 miles). I had my cruise control on at 65 mph. a guy drives down the on ramp and is just barely in front of me but not far enough to get in front of me. I see the car starting to shake back and forth across the lane (he was sawing at the wheel), and I noticed he kept looking back at me.
For a good 1/2 mile, this guy would slow down and speed up, but never enough to get in front or behind me (not that he needed to, there was no one blocking the lanes ahead). The whole time he is sawing at the wheel like he wants to get over but I am blocking his way.
Finally he floors it, speeding up to about 80 mph, the whole time looking back at me and sawing at the wheel in his lane. Once he was about 800 ft. in front of me he decided to make his move, jerking at the wheel shooting him all the way across the lanes to the left lane (remember, 4 lane highway, he and I were pretty much the only 2 vehicles on the road for about 1/4 miles distance). Once he got to his coveted left lane he jacked on the brakes, down to about 55 mph (65 zone) and continued at that pace for as long as I could see him.
So I need to ask, honestly, what is this overbearing obsession with the left lane?
For those that need help understanding, here is a friendly map for you to know what you need to do in your state.
And for more specific info on your individual state legislature, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Sorry for the rant but I am getting damn tired of these self-centered ass wipes whom refuse to maintain speed or move over to allow traffic to pass.

It's a daily occurrence that I encounter a left lane squatter on my way to class in the mornings. Today it was a blue PT Cruiser going 50 in the left lane. There was a good amount of traffic in the middle and far right lanes so I couldn't pass him. Flashed the brights, honked the horn, rode the shoulder and everything, but he wouldn't take the hint to move over. Unbelievably frustrating.

Doesn't matter anyway. Not really enforced, at least in NJ, PA, MA, and ME.

I'd imagine it's hard to enforce, but it would be nice if everyone did it anyways.

I really feel like green should be on every state.
and I've found a lot of times here in Michigan people get trapped in the left lane on the highway.
As soon as an opening to get around them appears, off goes the whole line of traffic around them which effectively locks the left laner in the left lane.
So please people, at least let them OUT of the left lane.

I call bullshit on this map, Pennsylvanians believe that the left lane is for doing 10 miles under the speed limit and doing the same speed as the car next to them in the middle lane.

There is a guy with a Prius out here who is like that. I run into him quite frequently on my trips home. I know it's the same Prius (even though they all lane hog) becasue his plate is "pwned". Always, always in the left most lane, and always 10 mph under the flow of traffic. So frustrating. I constantly envision just using the bull bar to ram him off the road and solve the issue once and for all (or until he buys a replacement earth saver Prius)

Some people think they're being heroes by slowing everyone down.
I do the same thing in school zones. I go the exact limit, no matter how slow it is, and if anyone wants to pass me they can go fuck themselves. I don't mess around when there are hundreds of young lives at stake.
On the freeway, though, 55 is too slow for the fast lane, so screw everyone who does that.

All states should be green. Another note, the asshole jockeying for position on a busy roadway almost never gets to the destination faster than they would if they were calmly driving in one lane. Its okay to drop ~2 mph to match traffic speed instead of flying off the handle and making a three lane pass snarling the other traffic in the process.

They do this here too. In some ways I can't blame them (most of these people never move, no matter how many cars pass them on the right), but if, on the rare occasion, the guy actually has his turn signal on, let the guy out.

The map only shows what the law is, not how it is enforced. Which, unfortunately, it is not enforced at all in most places, so whats the point of making the law anyways?

I agree with the school zone thing. And I have no problem with going the speed limit; you should still leave the PASSING LANE open though, even if you are going the speed limit. Those other people whom wish to break the speed limit are not your responsibility, if they want to risk a ticket, let them. It's not worth you risking creating an accident, road rage, or more traffic, right?

No, it says to move left to allow faster traffic to pass. Meaning, if you want to got 55 in a 65 in the left lane, that all fine and dandy, until someone who wants to go 65 comes up behind you. Then you must move right to let them pass.

Exactly. In fact, impeding the flow of traffic is just as bad as speeding, if not worse. I know that some college students around here decided to perform a social experiment where they formed a rolling road block to keep everyone at the exact speed limit just to see what reactions they would get. After ~15 minutes of being passed on the shoulder, relentlessly tailgated, and universally hated, they were ALL ticketed for being the only people following the speed limit.

As someone in a green state: HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH YEA RIGHT
The left lane around here seems defined as "try to pass someone, then the person you're trying to pass matches your speed and you end up with no easy way to get out of the left lane while faster traffic piles up around you" or "I'm going faster than everyone in the middle lane but not as fast as everyone else in the left lane oh maybe I should speed up for this black Buick that's charging up my ass"

It's true. Its so funny how many people I see driving over aggressively to get to the left lane, and then I just catch up and pass them while driving calmly and maintaining speed in the proper lane. all you did was look like an idiot and waste a bunch of gas...

Every time I have to go around a guy in the left lane I pull up in front of him and activate my window washer. Wind blows all the washer fluid over my car and all over his windshield. Then I grin when I see him turn on his wipers.

Yes but in practice, at least in Michigan there is no room for slower traffic in the left lane as people doing 10-15 miles per hour over the speed limit keep it pretty clear.

Wait, what? I rarely see that, except for maybe philly, which is almost NJ anyway so it makes sense they drive like they've got a front plate. I don't spend much time down there, so maybe that's why I almost never see the left lane rider with a PA plate.

It is generally not a problem here in Germany. If you are driving in the left lane, you must be passing and you either move to the right as soon as the pass is completed, or, when a faster car approaches. No negotiation. Not doing so results in a ticket.
